Next Star Wars Imperial Assault Expansion Announced: Jabba’s Realm

While I’ve still yet to make it through the entirety of my Star Wars Imperial Assault campaign, I still look forward to upcoming expansions. The latest one to be announced is near and dear to my heart, one that takes us to the hive of scum and villainy that is Jabba’s Realm.

Now, it seems like most of the characters I really really care about have made their appearance in some form or other. But Fantasy Flight’s website gives us a peek into what this expansion has to offer. As you might expect, there’ll be a full-length campaign that takes you to many a Tatooine landmark. You know, places like Jabba’s palace and the infamous sarlacc pit. Skirmish missions (which aren’t my preferred way of playing Imperial Assault) will take you to arenas like the Nal Hutta Borderlands or around the Pit of Carkoon.

To accompany this expansion, there’ll be a host of new characters and creatures to make your day go well or sour it with some impossible odds. Luke Skywalker comes back into the fray, this time, in Jedi form. Jabba himself will make an appearance and the rancor is there, in a full miniature form that looks pretty badass. Rebels will also get access to 3 heroes, including a Mandalorian warrior, another sniper-type character, and a devastatingly tough melee warrior. Imperials will get stormtroopers on jetpacks, which is kinda like putting dinosaurs in fighter planes. Totally unnecessary, but pretty cool all the same.

When it comes to my Imperial Assault purchases, I feel like it’s usually worth it for me to pursue the iconic characters than anything else and to shoot for 2 characters per expansion so I don’t stretch myself too thin. So for this set, it looks like Luke Skywalker (Jedi form) and Jabba the Hutt are the way to go. I usually don’t like to have prominent characters be played using tokens, so having them in their full glory makes the gaming experience all the better.

Now if I can only find time to get Imperial Assault back up and running….
